DeWalt's 14.4-volt right-angle drill/driver is an exciting new niche tool. Designed specifically for installers (or woodworkers who find themselves in tight places), DeWalt's right-angle drill adds the convenience of a cordless, without sacrificing of power. Cranking a maximum of 210 inch-pounds, the drill packs considerably more torque than its 9.6-volt competitors, which makes a big difference when tightening larger fasteners in tight places. Beyond the increased torque, what really sets this drill apart is its unique elongated rubber-trigger design. The tool fits comfortably in your hand no matter where you grip the handle and, thanks to the oversize trigger, you're able to squeeze the trigger from all sorts of hand positions. As a result, we were able to fit into some surprisingly awkward spots. This feature also extends your overhead reach by several inches--something cabinet installers, in particular, will appreciate. The fan-cooled motor holds up nicely under strain. The two-speed gearbox lets you gear down for torque or gear up if you need, say, to spin a paddle bit in a tight space. Of course, we were nervous that the larger 14.4-volt battery would make this tool unnecessarily cumbersome, but we were pleased by how compact and balanced DeWalt's new battery design really is. --Jon GroebnerDEWALT DW966K 14.4 Volt 3/8-Inch Right Angle Drill/Driver Kit

It is part of DeWalt's cordless line so that it has the cheerful yellow color and a long life battery. All of my other DeWalt tools are 18 volt; I have no understanding of why this tool does not come in an 18 volt model. In addition, this tool lacks a variable clutch. It has a 2-speed transmission, but no clutch. This doesn't make a lot of sense. I think that the tool would be vastly improved if it came in 18v and with a clutch. Except for these weaknesses, it does what it is supposed to do.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful.Great drill if used for its intentBy Daniel GregoireI'm a contractor & install a lot of cabinets. A corded drill is a pain and doesn't give the control you need for countersinking screw holes and screwing cabinets together. After reading a lot of the reviews I disagree with the problem of battery life if you use the drill for its intended use. A RA drill is not for drilling 2 bys and a 14.4 v will never last for the day in that application. That's what I use my 18v for. But for drilling & screwing up to 2-1/2" screws in tight quarters this drill will last most of the day and works great. I do have to admit that not having an extra battery is a slight downer and Dewalt should consider supplying one in the kit. That would definitely warrant 5 stars.See all 9 customer reviews...
