HigleyI have spent considerable time researching the best pressure washer (PW) to buy this summer as I have a growing list of projects where a PW would come in handy. The results of my research are Honda Engine/CAT Pump. I came to this conclusion mainly by talking with people who use PW's in their business or in a serious hobby. The best price I found was a Dewalt unit that was advertised at $749 for a DP3100. Most pictures on web sites show a CAT pump on it. Some pictures showed a black cover over the pump which indicated to me that it was not a CAT pump, why hide one. I determined that I would not buy online because of this. Home Depot ran a sale on these machines over Memorial day weekend 2007. I found it for $629. I went to the Home Depot closest to me, got one on a cart, and asked the sales associate to open the box, as I wanted to see the CAT pump for myself before buying it: Woops -no CAT Pump - only the black box hiding "some kind of pump". I declined to buy it, went to another Home Depot 11 miles away, went through the same procedure, and found that DP3100 with a CAT pump plainly visible. The manufacturer is obviously building this unit with two different pumps, which reminds me of the old saying: "Buyer Beware". I used my new machine today and it works great, as I expected a Honda Engine with CAT pump to operate. Love the machine -hate the "shell game".7 of 7 people found the following review helpful.Dewalt DP3100 is GreatBy Jeff ShultzI just purchased this pressure washer yesterday, but I've already used it on three projects. My thoughts in no particular order:My machine came with a Cat brand pump. If you do some research, you'll find Cat is often considered the "Holy Grail" of pressure washer pumps for this size of machine. Cat pumps are praised by service people and owners. Combine that with the wonderful Honda engine, and you have a winner. This washer is plenty powerful and comes with high quality accessories (hose, spray gun, nozzels, pneumatic tires). Like all Hondas, the engine is smooth and not too loud. The spray wand has a good feel and does not drip when you release the trigger. All this adds up to quick, positive results. This unit weighs about 100 pounds, which is good for a machine with this much power. The cart is well balanced and rolls easily. The only "extra" I would add is a pressure gague to remind me "keep the engine speed slow enough when doing delicate cleaning". This gague is a $20 item and can be added at any time very easily.I like the DP3100 and would buy it again. Check prices locally. I bought mine at Home Depot during a Memorial Day weekend sale and paid only $584. The washer is great...just make sure you are getting a good price.6 of 7 people found the following review helpful.Beware - Dewalt has cheaped outBy Patricia M. ObrienI did my research on pressure washers and like the previous review I had found that the way to go was a Honda GX engine and a CAT pump. A local large retailer just put this pressure washer on sale. I went and looked at the display model and sure enough Honda GX engine and CAT pump. I bought the unit brought it home and opened the box. Now the pump area is surrounded by a plastic cover secured by Torx bolts (just to make it harder to take the cover off.) I pulled off the cover and there is some no name cheapo aluminum pump with "Made in Taiwan" stamped on it. I did not appreciate the bait and switch and wrote Dewalt a letter telling them so. Still haven't decided if I'll return the unit or keep it and hope for the best. Just wanted to let future buyers know, you may want to try a different manufacturer that doesn't put profit before quality.Tim O'BrienSee all 9 customer reviews...
